William S. Smillie, “Sandy” to his friends, was born outside of Chicago in 1974. At about 9 years of age, Sandy saw his brother perform in a high school play and promptly fell in love with theatre.
Upon graduating from high school, however, he decided not to pursue acting as a career because he didn’t want to be a starving artist. He decided, instead, to become a history major. And that went about as well as you might expect. Seven years later, he woke up and realized he was living the life of a starving artist but without the art, so he decided to get back into it.
Sandy is now a proud member of The Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, an Equity theatre company in residence at the McAnich Arts Center in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), and the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA).
Sandy currently lives in Chicago with two dogs, a cat, a vacuum, and a carpet shampooer.
